October 2001
Indie Folk Hero Steve Forbert performs
at The Historic Bull Run Restaurant Concert Series
on Friday, October 19, 8pm.
Shirley, MA, October 12, 2001 -- One of the most gifted songwriters and
performers in contemporary folk rock from this last quarter century brings
his richly melodic, soulful music to the historic Bull Run Restaurant,
Route 2A in Shirley MA on Friday, October 19 at 8pm. Doors open at 6pm for
dinner.
What kinda guy broke into the music scene in New York with only an acoustic
guitar, in clubs where people went to hear loud New Wave? What kinda guy
writes songs that can be funny and poignant, lighthearted but powerful,
topical and specific? What kinda guy has a major hit with ROMEO'S TUNE and
still follows his own musical road regardless of trends? ...A Steve Forbert
kinda guy!
At 21, Steve Forbert left the small Mississippi town he grew up in and
traveled north, to become a folk hero in the giant metropolis of New York City. With only a guitar and harmonica, he managed to cause a stir in NYC
amongst emerging New Wave artists like Blondie, Talking Heads, and the Sex Pistols.
Jackrabbit Slim, Forbert’s second album, produced the mega-hit "Romeo's
Tune". Twenty-two years later, he’s just released a live album recorded in
2000, Live From The Bottom Line, and a new collection of old songs from the
New York period, Young, Guitar Days.
Forbert's performances draw from an impressive collection of seventeen
albums of material. Humor and insight are a large component of his varied,
raw and moving songs.
