to perform with his band, The Fabulous Meltones, at the historic Bull Run Restaurant
on Saturday, February 16, 8pm. Doors open at 6pm.
Melvern Taylor is a master pop craftsman who communicates desperate
testaments to love beyond hope, and weaves evocative tales of the characters
in all our lives. His songs are complex, cruising with his golden voice and
sweet melodies drifting on a sea of vodka and loss.
This local boy could be a one-man band. Taylor plays guitar, organ, piano
and a slew of percussion instruments. But his band, the Fabulous Meltones,
adds to the fun with slide guitar, banjo, and mandolin.
Growing up in Andover, the other neighborhood kids were skating on frozen
ponds and playing backyard football. But Taylor was digging the hand-me-down
records from his older siblings. "Music was the ultimate unifier," he says.
Taylor's sparse, acoustic arrangements and lilting melodies sweep through
themes of lovelorn saviors and tragic fatal flaws. He recounts stories of
tumultuous love affairs, ugly sisters, and trips to Graceland - all with a
sense of grace and irony.
2001 saw the release of Taylor's second CD, "Spider and the Barfly", on
Portsmouth, NH's Broken White Records. "Handsome Bastard", his debut CD, is
also now available through Broken White.
